quick thoughts v1

figured id hit the ground running with some thoughts. been such a long time since the days where I would genuinely post something with specific intent. it seems like nowadays everyone is sharing things non verbally and no real communication is occurring anymore on social media. i am referring specifically to instagram. it used to be my favorite place to share my photography, music and film interests. now i just share sports results and highlights. i still continue to share some posts and my thoughts on there but its random and there really isn't intent behind it.

most of what i share or see today on the platform is reactionary. people reacting to this or that or reporting on this or that. when i encounter someone posting a dump of their week or month its like a breath of fresh air. finally something genuine. well not all of them. most of those posts are carefully put together to remove any semblance of spontaneity. im not the kind of person that is a full on skeptic of everything i see but ive become more and more skeptical to the authenticity of it all.

sometimes i do see useful posts. i came upon a post about feeding into your cringe. feels unrelated but it tapped into a very interesting point about not caring about what people will think when you do something. cringe needs to be encouraged in a healthy way. its become frowned upon if you do something that people label as cringe. how do you know if its cringe or not? if its based on what other peoples dictate. this post itself is probably cringe to some people and thats fine. so dont bother reading further. its for me anyway.

social media, has handcuffed us from experimenting more. we scroll and scroll all day and we see how successful or creative this person is or how great this person is at this specific thing that we cant help but compare ourselves to them. this type thing has been talked about a lot recently but if you havent heard of this before id recommend checking out being_on_line. its important to put yourself out there and fail if you have to and you will most certainly fail. count on it. you are learning about yourself in the process.

the work you create or hobbies you cultivate are not about others. its always been about you. the goal isnt to become a world renowned artist. its about sharing with each other our identities and embracing each other for how different and alike we are. not everyone is an artist but everyone has hobbies that brings them joy.

ive felt a very strong pull away from social media for about 2 months where i need to get my mind right and purge all the baggage and prior misconception i had about it all. me writing this has been cathartic and has helped me release thoughts that have been simmering for a while now
